The Alpena lighthouse was awarded and then deeded to the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy in July of 2013 from the Federal Government for preservation. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse is in need of preservation. The US Coast Guard still is in charge of the light at the top and the fog signal. Because the lighthouse is accessed through private property as well as on a rocky breakwall, it will not be open for tours on a regular basis, but we hope to coordinate special openings from time to time. There are high voltage components currently in the watch room which do not leave much space for any visitors at the present time and those must be downsized at some point. Preservation of the light will not be an easy task, so please consider helping financially right now to build the restoration dollars.
