The newest jewel in Ludington’s museum-tourist attraction crown is the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum, and it is nearing completion in readiness for its Grand Opening in the summer of 2017.
Located in the former US Coast Guard Station, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum will entertain, enlighten, and instruct. Through a variety of diverse, family-friendly, interactive exhibits, the museum will provide visitors with a captivating look at the rich maritime heritage of Ludington and the greater West Michigan region.
Visitors will experience piloting the car ferry Pere Marquette 22 into Ludington’s harbor, learn the unique light signals of Lake Michigan’s many lighthouses, experience up close and personally many authentic artifacts used in the fascinating story of the Ludington’s celebrated harbor and by many of its famous Coast Guardsmen and car ferry sailors.
