The Oakland County Fair is one of the oldest fairs in the nation, tracing its roots back to the Oakland Agricultural Society founded in 1830. Over the years the Oakland County Fair has been held on several different locations beginning with the 1850 fair in Pontiac. The fair was held in Milford from 1880 until 1949. There is some overlap as the Michigan Agricultural Society had yearly fairs in Pontiac from 1936 until 1971. The fair moved from its Pontiac location to its current site at Springfield Oaks, a county park in Davisburg in 1972.
As society has grown and changed so has the role of the Fair. While the Fair has remain a source of community it now serves as an educational opportunity, a connection with agriculture and family friendly entertainment. The mission of the Oakland County Fair is to provide a public educational showcase of our youth through hands-on experience with exhibits, demonstrations, and presentations as young people develop life skills in a family atmosphere.
